  Quito Mayor Santiago Garderas said Tuesday that 24 people had been killed in a landslide caused by heavy rains, citing the Guardian. At least 47 others were injured in the incident. The condition of the two is serious.



  In Quito, many houses, including roads, are buried under a thick layer of clay. The South American country has recorded the highest rainfall in two decades.


  Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in the northern part of the capital, Quito. Rocks fall from the hills into the lowlands. Several houses were destroyed. Many trees and electricity poles fell down. Large areas were cut off from electricity. Rains still continue in various parts of the north.


  The mayor of Quito said up to 75,000 millimeters of rain was recorded on Monday. The last such rainfall was recorded in the capital in 2003.


  According to Reuters, heavy rains are currently falling in various parts of Ecuador. This has led to floods in those areas and damaged hundreds of homes and roads.
